The Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus consists of a number of off-campus, at-school and in-school programs designed to nurture and develop children’s singing ability.
For information on how you can have a SBCC program at your school, please contact us at director@sbchildrenschorus.com.
The following are our primary programs for 2012/2013 school year:
Concert Chorus – Erin Bonski-Evans, Chorus Director
The SBCC Concert Chorus is our primary training and performing program. This program is open to all students, ages 8-14 years of age. This is a drop in program – students can join at any point during the program year. The students entering this program are divided into levels based on experience, time in the chorus and other factors. Each level provides an increasing progression of music education and performance experience. Skills assessments are performed annually to track student progress in theory, vocal ability, ear training and sight singing.
Cost per student is $120 per month and includes instruction, materials and performances. Sessions run throughout the school year and have two formal concerts in the Fall and Spring and numerous other performance opportunities throughout our program year.
Some other concerts have included performances with the SB Opera and African Children’s Chorus as well as performance opportunities at local events and festivals.

All-Schools Chorus (ACS) – Paul Freeman, Program Director
The SBCC ASC is a county-wide program that brings together students from all participating elementary schools into a single group performance held in the spring. The program curriculum is provided by SBCC to the schools with the purpose of being integrated into their own music programs or delivered in a “music club” format at lunch or after school. In schools where music teachers do not exist, SBCC can assist in the arranging of a music teacher for either in-school or after-school conducting through affiliate relationships with other arts organizations or through their own conducting staff. All students are expected to learn the pieces over a 12-week at-school training period. At the end of the training period, participating schools then each select between 10 and 20 “ambassadors” gathered from across all grade levels to perform in the group performance. Selected students are then brought together for group rehearsals and a final performance.
This program is currently running at 6 local elementary schools and one Junior High School. An All Schools Chorus performance is planned for late April 2013.
If you or your school would like to participate in this program, please contact Paul Freeman at director@sbchildrenschorus.com.
